i'm 24, working in an MNC, package is decent. but the job security thing is real. my parents are right about one thing - i have not once seen a govt employee get laid off in a restructuring. downsides i'm aware of: 2-3 years of prep typically, no guarantee, income drops initially, posting anywhere in India. upsides beyond stability: pension (NPS not old but still), leaves, predictable hours, societal weight especially outside metros. genuinely asking: has anyone made this switch and regretted it? or was it worth it?

I was part of the original Fire India community, there used to be lots of discussion on SWR, ERN rising equity glide paths etc. This was 4 years ago, when Indian markets were roaring and the experts here kind of extrapolated everything that applies to US also applies to India.
